贡萨加大学是一所私立的天主教大学，由耶稣会创办于1887年，是美国耶稣会学院和大学联合会的28个成员校之一，校名是为纪念年轻的耶稣会士St. Aloysius Gonzaga而命名的。学校由Father Joseph Cataldo创立，1887–1912期间曾被命名为Gonzaga College，之后命名为Gonzaga University。
校园环境
贡萨加大学占地131亩，校园内各色建筑多达105栋。其中包括两座大型图书馆：Foley Center Library和Chastek Law Library。Foley Center Library始建于1992年，是校内本科和研究生学习的主要场所。Chastek Law Library成立于2000年，主要供法学院师生使用。Gonzaga Aerial Photo
学校建有McCarthey 体育中心，这里经常举办篮球比赛。直到1995年，贡萨加大学的男子篮球队在全美大学生体育协会锦标赛中才得以首次亮相。而在1999年，就以“精英八强”的优异成绩成功进军全美大学生体育协会锦标赛区域总决赛。自此之后，每年的锦标赛中都能看到贡萨加大学男子篮球队的身影。2010年，我校女子篮球队“Sweet Sixteen”成立。Gonzaga Life
与众多小型院校类似的是，1941年秋季，即美国加入二战前夕，贡萨加大学取消了校园足球项目。而在这里，学校曾先后培养出两位职业足球名人堂成员：Green Bay Packers的Tony Canadeo 和Washington Redskins的主教练Ray Flaherty。此外，Flaherty还邀请了前Bulldog队的球星前来Redskin队担任守卫队员，包括：Ed Justice, George "Automatic" Karamatic和Max Krause等。
